Earth Day 2011 -- Saturday, April 16 – will be a busy day at the Folsom Powerhouse and the Folsom State Recreation Area. Earth Day projects at the Powerhouse State Historic Park will include removal of weeds around the forebay and afterbay spillways, and a major effort to remove excess vegetation from the canal trails. You bet, volunteers are needed! Here are the details from the California State Parks Foundation:

Projects:
- Folsom Powerhouse SHP – forebay and afterbay spillways cleanout – manual removal of vegetation in the historic spillways and around structures/features
- Folsom Powerhouse SHP – fuel reduction for fire management within historic core area of park unit – weed abatement within the historic core
- Folsom Powerhouse SHP – canal trail maintenance –major work will be conducted by manual removal/trimming of vegetation to enhance safety and site clearance for visitors utilizing the historic water canal trail
- Folsom SRA – Shadow Glenn staging area – manual removal and fuel reduction of vegetation in public day use area
- Folsom SRA – Nimbus Flat – Sacramento Co. Sheriff memorial site beautification
- Folsom SRA – various locations – litter removal along trails and shoreline
